Thousands March to Seattle Center for 'No Kings' Rally as Seattle Activates Joint Information Center

Seattle is a city in King County, Washington. The City of Seattle activated its Joint Information Center at 10 a.m. on October 17 to support operations related to the day's "No Kings" rally. In a release issued through AlertSeattle, the city's Office of Emergency Management said public information officers were available to answer media inquiries at (206) 233-5072.
Thousands of demonstrators gathered at Seattle Center on Saturday for a "No Kings" rally and a voting rights fair focused on voter education, voter rights, ballot issue information and election protection, FOX 13 Seattle reported. The event featured a march from Westlake Park to Seattle Center and was the largest "No Kings" demonstration in Washington state that day.
Seattle Indivisible President Kathleen Carson said the primary objective of the gathering was translating public engagement into active participation at the ballot box. Voting, she said, is "the entryway into the palace of democracy" — "not everything, but it's the first thing we have to do." She added that the rally represented a commitment to nonviolent action and protected First Amendment expression.
The event space at Seattle Center included a memorial display honoring the 85 lives lost in connection with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to FOX 13 Seattle. Attendee Rozella VanMeter, who has taken part in past No Kings rallies, said answering questions people may not get answered from other sources remained important.
The October 17 "No Kings" events, held in cities across the United States, centered on early voting and election protection. Seattle's rally proceeded with coordination from the city's Joint Information Center, and the city continued to publish updates through AlertSeattle.
