Alabama Governor Election: AP Calls Race for Tuberville

The Associated Press called Alabama's governor's race on the evening of November 3 for Republican U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, who defeated Democratic candidate and former U.S. Senator Doug Jones to succeed term-limited Governor Kay Ivey, keeping the governor's office in Republican hands. Alabama is in the southeastern United States, and its capital is Montgomery.
The AP results page snapshot showed 1,970 of the state's 2,028 precincts reporting, about 97.14 percent, with an estimated 97.17 percent of the vote counted; Tuberville had 872,445 votes to Jones's 803,468. Tuberville declared victory on election night; as of 11:30 p.m., Jones had not conceded.
The race was a rematch of the 2020 U.S. Senate election, when Tuberville defeated then-Senator Jones to enter politics; this year's margin was far narrower than in 2020 and made it Alabama's closest governor's race in a decade. The Senate seat Tuberville leaves behind was won the same night by Barry Moore, whose victory was also called by the AP. Results are unofficial until canvassing and certification by the secretary of state's office.
