Sunday, November 1, 2026 · Culture & Travel · GSM News

The Kilauea Visitor Center at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is 95 percent renovated and on track to reopen in late 2026, the National Park Service announced on October 15; no exact date has been set. Rangers and Hawai'i Pacific Parks Association staff are preparing to move back from the temporary Welcome Center at Kilauea Military Camp.

The refreshed building has a roomier interior and an adjacent new halau, an outdoor gathering place visible from Crater Rim Drive West. Wayfinding exhibits for the halau are slated for fall 2027, and the fully reimagined visitor center exhibits are planned for late 2028.

Park entrance costs 30 dollars per private vehicle, 25 dollars per motorcycle and 15 dollars per person on foot or bicycle, and the park is cashless. Veterans Day, November 11, is a fee-free day.
