WASHINGTON — With two days to go before the November 3 midterm elections, early voting in the United States has continued to climb. As of 6:56 a.m. Eastern time on Sunday, November 1, 53.14 million Americans had voted early, according to an analysis by the University of Florida Election Lab, including 29 million in-person votes and 23 million mail-in ballots.

That total is about 7.1 million above the 46 million early ballots cast across the whole early-voting period in the 2022 midterms, and above the 51.31 million reported in an earlier November 1 follow-up. The United States has about 210 million registered voters.

In states that report voters' party registration, more than 11 million registered Democrats had voted early by Sunday morning, compared with about 8 million registered Republicans. Early-vote totals describe participation, not the choices voters made on their ballots.

In-person voting before November was available in 47 states and Washington, D.C., in 2026, compared with 24 states in 2000. Early-voting periods, eligibility and procedures vary by state, as do mail-ballot deadlines: some states require ballots to arrive by Election Day, while others may count ballots received afterward if they were postmarked by Election Day.

Voters on Tuesday will decide all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats. Republicans currently hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate and a narrow edge in the House.
