Sunday, November 1, 2026 · World · GSM News

At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman began a state visit to China on November 1, running through November 2. It is Haitham's first visit to China since he took the throne in 2020, and the first state visit to China by an Omani head of state since the two countries established diplomatic relations 48 years ago, in 1978. China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun announced the visit at the regular press conference on October 30.

According to the Foreign Ministry, during the visit President Xi will hold talks with Sultan Haitham, and Premier Li Qiang will meet with him. The two sides will exchange views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

China and Oman established diplomatic relations on May 25, 1978, and set up a strategic partnership in 2018. Oman is one of China's important economic, trade and energy partners among the Arab states, and the two countries continue to advance practical cooperation in various fields under the Belt and Road framework.
