Palm Springs City Hall, Riverside County's Only Ballot Drop-Off Open Saturday, Takes In 278 Ballots in Three Hours

Riverside County — Palm Springs is a city in Riverside County, California. Palm Springs City Hall was the only ballot drop-off location open in Riverside County on Saturday, October 17, as the city partnered with the group Courageous Resistance and the county Registrar of Voters to give residents another opportunity to vote early ahead of the November 3 election, The Desert Sun reported. What began with nearly 40 ballots in the first 20 minutes ended with 278 returned over three hours, according to Emily Vogt, an organizer with Courageous Resistance. Three county election representatives were on hand to help residents register to vote, answer questions and hand out voter information guides. "It's a big deal that the county and the city came to work together with us to get this open on a Saturday," Vogt said. "We're making it an experience today for folks to come and drop off their ballots early," Palm Springs City Clerk Brenda Pree said.
Five "No Kings" demonstrations took place across the Coachella Valley on Saturday morning, in Indio, Palm Desert, Cathedral City and at two locations in Palm Springs, as part of the nationwide "No Kings: Vote Early" push. Doug Wiley, a protester outside City Hall who returned his ballot with his husband, told the newspaper: "This is the only tool we have to affect change in our democracy, and we need to participate in that democracy in order to affect that change."
Voters can continue dropping off ballots at Palm Springs City Hall during regular weekday hours. In- person voting will be available from October 24 through November 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Demuth Community Center in Palm Springs, the Indio Library and La Quinta City Hall, with additional Coachella Valley vote centers opening October 31. Election Day is November 3.
