Life-sentence inmate escapes late on Oct. 25; Tennessee agencies mount full-scale manhunt on Oct. 26

Tiptonville, Lake County, Tennessee — On Oct. 26, the Tennessee Department of Correction confirmed that Jacob Allen Morley, an inmate serving a life sentence at the Northwest Correctional Complex, has escaped and a multi-agency manhunt is under way. The department said staff discovered Morley missing at about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 25, immediately conducted an emergency count and searched the facility; surveillance showed him climbing over the fence and leaving in a department uniform. Morley, 28, was sentenced to life for a 2022 first-degree murder in Carter County and also faces convictions including burglary and evidence tampering. The department urged anyone who sees him to call 911 immediately, or contact the department or the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation with tips. The department said public safety is the top priority and that it is working closely with local, state and federal law enforcement to recapture Morley. This is the second escape from department custody in less than a week; another inmate escaped during a medical transport and was recaptured hours later.
