Hawaii Governor Election: AP Calls Race for Green, Winning a Second Term

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press called Hawaii's governor's race on the evening of November 3 for Democratic Governor Josh Green, who defeated Republican candidate and businessman Gary Cordery to win a second four-year term. Hawaii is in the central Pacific, and its capital is Honolulu.

The AP results page snapshot showed an estimated 75.43 percent of the vote counted; Green had 227,046 votes to Cordery's 75,978, about 74.9 percent to 25.1 percent. The AP declared Green the winner at 12:00 a.m. Eastern on November 4.

Green, a physician, was elected Hawaii's lieutenant governor in 2018 and first elected governor in 2022; his running mate, lieutenant governor candidate Derek Kawakami, was elected with him. No Republican has won a Hawaii governor's race since 2006. Results are unofficial until canvassing and certification by the state elections office.
