Follow-Up: Brewers Rally From 4-0 Down to Beat Rays 5-4 in World Series Game 2, Take 2-0 Series Lead

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

In Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 in Game 2 of the 2026 World Series on the night of October 24 at American Family Field, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series before a crowd of 43,245. The Brewers had won Game 1 the night before, 3-2.

Tampa Bay struck first in the opening inning: leadoff hitter Yandy Díaz reached second on a throwing error by shortstop Cooper Pratt, Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero followed with RBI singles, and Liam Hicks added a two-run home run for a 4-0 lead. Brewers starter Logan Henderson needed 35 pitches to get through the first inning and finished with three innings pitched, three hits, four runs (three earned) and four strikeouts.

Milwaukee answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, on RBI singles by William Contreras (scoring Jackson Chourio) and Garrett Mitchell (scoring Jake Bauers). In the fourth, David Hamilton's grounder got through first baseman Jonathan Aranda's legs, allowing Pratt to score to make it 4-3; Rays starter Drew Rasmussen was chased after 3 2/3 innings and three runs allowed, and reliever Cam Booser escaped a bases-loaded jam.

The Brewers' bullpen decided the game from there: JoJo Romero, Dustin May, DL Hall, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined for six scoreless innings. In the sixth, Hicks was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and tried to score on Victor Mesa Jr.'s single, but Chourio threw him out at the plate, and Tampa Bay lost replay challenges on both the tag and the collision. In the bottom of the sixth, Sal Frelick homered 408 feet off Ian Seymour on a full count to tie the game 4-4, his first home run since July 11.

In the seventh, Brice Turang led off with a double and took third on a deep fly ball, and Pratt — whose error had opened the scoring in the first — singled softly to right off Kevin Kelly to drive in Turang and put Milwaukee ahead 5-4. In the eighth, Chourio was thrown out at the plate on a contact play, with the call upheld on replay, denying the Brewers an insurance run. In the ninth, Ashby allowed a double to Jonny DeLuca but struck out Mesa Jr., got pinch-hitter Ben Williamson to ground out (DeLuca taking third) and struck out Díaz to end the game. Ashby worked 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, extending his scoreless streak this postseason to 15 2/3 innings.

Milwaukee finished with 11 hits and 12 runners left on base; Tampa Bay had seven hits, and each team committed one error. Game 3 is scheduled for Monday, October 26 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, at 8 p.m. ET. Both clubs are chasing the first World Series championship in franchise history.
