South Carolina Governor Election: AP Calls Race for Wilson

The Associated Press called South Carolina's governor's race on the evening of November 3 for Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson, who defeated Democratic candidate and state Representative Jermaine Johnson to succeed term-limited Governor Henry McMaster. South Carolina is in the southeastern United States, and its capital is Columbia.
The AP results page snapshot showed all 2,312 of the state's precincts reporting, with an estimated 98.78 percent of the vote counted; Wilson had 1,050,190 votes (about 51.6 percent) to Johnson's 959,001 (about 47.1 percent), with the remaining candidates combining for about 26,000 votes. The AP declared Wilson the winner at 12:35 a.m. Eastern on November 4.
Wilson has served as South Carolina's attorney general since 2011 and is the son of U.S. Representative Joe Wilson; he won the Republican nomination in a primary runoff against Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette. McMaster has served as governor since 2017 and was term-limited. Results are unofficial until canvassing and certification by the state election commission.
