Wang Yi and Wang Wentao to Co-Chair 37th APEC Foreign and Trade Ministers' Video Meeting on Nov. 3
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on November 2 that Wang Yi, China's foreign minister, and Commerce Minister Wang Wentao will co-chair the 37th APEC foreign and trade ministers' meeting by video in Beijing on November 3.
The joint ministerial meeting is the foreign and trade ministers' preparatory session ahead of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. This is APEC's 'China Year': the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting will be held in Shenzhen later this month under the theme 'Building an Asia-Pacific Community and Promoting Common Prosperity,' with cooperation advanced under the priorities of openness, innovation and cooperation.
Chen Xu, president of the China Public Diplomacy Association and chair of the 2026 APEC Senior Officials' Meeting, said in Haikou on November 1 that China, as host, has held more than 300 APEC meetings and events this year, and that members have reaffirmed support for the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific process and approved outcomes including the APEC Services Competitiveness Roadmap, laying the groundwork for the leaders' meeting in Shenzhen.
The November 3 video meeting, co-chaired by the foreign and commerce ministers, is a ministerial-level alignment session before the leaders' meeting. GSM will follow up with the meeting's outcomes and the leaders' meeting arrangements as they are officially released.
