Follow-Up: Rays Stun Brewers 4-3 in 12 Innings in World Series Game 4: DeLuca and Williamson Rally in Bottom Half After Pratt's Go-Ahead Homer

The Tampa Bay Rays scored twice in the bottom of the 12th inning to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, avoiding a sweep and cutting Milwaukee's series lead to 3-1. Game 5 is Wednesday night at Tropicana Field.

According to the Associated Press, rookie Cooper Pratt's solo home run off Ian Seymour in the top of the 12th had put the Brewers ahead 3-2, three outs from a sweep and the first World Series title in franchise history. But Junior Caminero reached on a throwing error by third baseman Joey Ortiz to open the bottom half, pinch-runner Cedric Mullins moved to third on Liam Hicks' single off Shane Drohan, and Jonny DeLuca singled to center to tie the game at 3. Chandler Simpson's single loaded the bases, and against a five-man infield, pinch-hitter Ben Williamson chopped a ball over first baseman Jake Bauers and into right field for the walk-off hit.

The teams were tied 2-2 after nine innings: Simpson's RBI double put Tampa Bay ahead in the second, Pratt's RBI double tied it in the fourth, Caminero scored on David Hamilton's throwing error in the bottom of the fourth, and Hamilton atoned with a game-tying solo homer in the fifth. Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings to extend his postseason scoreless streak to 18 innings. Pratt finished with four hits, the first rookie with four hits in a potential World Series clincher, and Jackson Chourio added two hits for 10 in the series.

Tampa Bay became just the fifth of 26 teams that fell behind 3-0 in the World Series to win Game 4; the previous four all lost Game 5. Milwaukee, which won a major league-best 103 games, still has three chances to close out its first championship.
