Kesha Finally Releases Her First-Ever Video, 16 Years Later: 'Backstabber' From 2009

Kesha's music video for 'Backstabber' was formally released on October 26, sixteen years after it was shot. The song comes from her debut album Animal, released in January 2010. Kesha announced the release on Instagram on October 25, writing that she could not believe the video was finally here after 16 years.
She said the clip was the first music video she ever made, filmed in 2009 in downtown Los Angeles near the bar where she worked part-time. She and her friends stayed up all night doing their own glam and filming it themselves because she wanted 'Backstabber' to be a single. Forbes reported that the label instead chose 'TiK ToK' as the debut single and the video was shelved; the cast included the future RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Detox. Asked on X why it took so long, she replied that it is a long story and that she has been trying the whole time.
The video shows her dancing through a neon-lit city at night after a companion drives off with her car, in glitter makeup and a tiger-print look. Kesha also announced a knife-shaped vinyl single of 'Backstabber' with 'Cannibal' as the B-side. Since Animal she has released five more studio albums, most recently . (PERIOD) in July 2025.
