Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · States · GSM News

Delaware state election officials announced on October 21 that a suspicious white powder mailed to the State Election Commissioner's Office last week was determined to be nonhazardous, the latest development in the incident. Officials announced the test results in a news release but did not say what the substance was.

The incident occurred on October 15, when an employee at the State Election Commissioner's Office in Dover opened an envelope containing a white powdery substance, prompting an evacuation and the temporary relocation of office operations. The envelope was isolated, employees were decontaminated and the building's HVAC system was shut down.

Officials said the office and all Department of Elections offices statewide have resumed normal operations, with election preparations proceeding uninterrupted. The FBI and inspection authorities for the United States Postal Service continue to investigate the incident.
