teamLab's First Permanent U.S. Museum Lands in Anaheim: About 110,000 Square Feet, Opening in 2030

International art collective teamLab announced on October 29 that it will open its first permanent museum in the United States at OCVIBE in Anaheim, California, with an opening planned for 2030. It will be teamLab's first major permanent museum in North America.
The new museum will span approximately 110,000 square feet in a purpose-built venue designed around teamLab's immersive art experience, with architecture by smith-clementi and LPA serving as architect of record and working directly with teamLab on the exhibitions. Conceived as a sculptural presence anchoring one end of the district and visible from the freeway, the building's textured exterior evokes scales and movement and shifts in color with the changing sunlight, forming a deliberate contrast with the transparent, illuminated ARTIC transit center nearby.
"It is with great joy that we announce the opening of teamLab's first major museum in North America, located at OCVIBE in Anaheim," said Toshiyuki Inoko, founder of teamLab. "For teamLab, through art, we seek to explore what perception is and what existence is. The artworks change with the presence of people, making them an integral part of the art itself."
OCVIBE is a 100-acre sports, entertainment and arts district under construction around the Honda Center in Anaheim, in California's Orange County, privately funded with a $5 billion commitment by the Samueli family. Its first phase opens in March 2027 with a 5,000-capacity concert hall, followed by the Katella Commons market hall and The Weave office building. Once fully complete in 2033, the district will bring 20 acres of open space, three miles of connected walking trails, more than 2,000 residences, over 35 dining experiences and three entertainment venues.
Mike Waterman, president and CEO of Visit Anaheim, said teamLab choosing Anaheim for its first permanent U.S. home is a powerful statement about where the destination is headed, and should draw new audiences from around the world and inspire longer stays. Founded in 2001, teamLab is an interdisciplinary collective of artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects; its immersive exhibitions in the United States have previously been temporary, and the permanent museum will give U.S. audiences year-round access.
