Gwinnett County SWAT Raid on Apartment Building in Search for 17-Year-Old Murder Suspect Frightens Residents in Asian Community Hub

Gwinnett County police in Georgia recently sent a SWAT team into an apartment complex near Norcross searching for 17-year-old murder suspect Adrianna Upshur. According to Atlanta's WSB-TV, the operation was connected to the October 11 shooting death of Luis Mario Munoz Ortiz; police said the teen later turned herself in. Police had already arrested another suspect, a 19-year-old, on October 15 in the same case on murder charges.
Resident Joy Goode said she was terrified when SWAT officers surrounded the complex and ordered all residents to stay inside, and neighbors remained shaken afterward. The Duluth and Norcross areas of Gwinnett County are metro Atlanta's largest Chinese community hub, dense with Asian supermarkets and Chinese restaurants and a top choice for Chinese families settling in the area, and many Chinese residents expressed concern about neighborhood safety. Police have not released further details. (GSM, from WSB-TV reporting)
