MotoGP to Join an F1 Weekend for the First Time: Demonstration Laps Saturday at COTA in Austin
MotoGP announced on October 21 that it will appear during a Formula 1 race weekend for the first time: during the F1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, from October 23 to 25, four premier-class MotoGP bikes will run demonstration laps on Saturday ahead of F1 practice. Riders taking part include Dani Pedrosa, Nicolo Bulega, Andrea Dovizioso and Lorenzo Savadori. MotoGP called it 'a landmark moment for global motorsport.'
F1 and MotoGP are now both owned by Liberty Media, and the two premier series sharing a weekend for the first time is seen as a landmark step in integrating the group's racing properties. MotoGP has never previously appeared during an F1 weekend, and its addition gives Austin race fans two top series on one ticket.
