Boise State Edges Texas State 46-45: Wright's Late Touchdown Caps Wild Fourth Quarter

No. 20 Boise State survived a wild finish to beat Texas State 46-45 on Saturday night, October 31, at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho, improving to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-12 with a seventh straight win. Texas State fell to 4-4 and 2-2 in conference play.
Boise State dominated the first half: quarterback Maddux Madsen ran for two touchdowns, Dylan Riley scored on a 5-yard run, and Madsen hit R.J. Jones for a 12-yard touchdown to make it 28-3 at halftime, with Texas State's only points coming on Jacob Bonilla's 31-yard field goal.
Texas State stormed back with a 22-0 third quarter. Brad Jackson threw touchdown passes of 67 and 3 yards, the second followed by a two-point conversion, then ran 35 yards for a score to cut the margin to 28-25.
The fourth quarter saw four lead changes. Jackson's 44-yard strike to Beau Sparks and J. Bradley's 20-yard interception return put Texas State ahead 39-28. Backup quarterback Max Cutforth answered with touchdown passes of 10 and 11 yards to Jones for a 40-39 Boise State lead, Jackson replied with a 72-yard bomb to Zedric Sample for 45-40, and Cutforth found Asa Wright from 18 yards with 2:40 left for the 46-45 final margin before the Broncos ran out the clock. Every two-point try after a fourth-quarter touchdown failed, keeping the game on a knife's edge.
Madsen finished 24-of-33 for 236 yards with one touchdown pass, one interception and two rushing touchdowns. Cutforth went 8-of-13 for 132 yards and three touchdowns; Jones caught nine passes for 118 yards and three scores, Wright eight for 116 and one, and Riley rushed 22 times for 72 yards and a touchdown. Jackson threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns without an interception and added 54 rushing yards and a score; Sample had two catches for 89 yards.
Boise State stays atop the Pac-12 and in control of its playoff path. Texas State visits Oregon State next week.
