Charlotte Approves $4.16 Million Infrastructure Investment for Brookhill Village: $92.6 Million Public-Private Project to Turn 36-Acre Site Into Mixed-Use Community

The City of Charlotte, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, announced on October 20 that the City Council has approved $4.16 million in funding to support a plan that would transform Brookhill Village into a mixed-use community with new infrastructure, community facilities, an entertainment venue and space for community events.

Under the arrangement, the city will reimburse developer Griffin Brothers Properties for infrastructure improvements at the 36-acre site as part of a $92.6 million public-private project. The work includes extending Dunavant Street across South Tryon Street to improve traffic and pedestrian flow between the Toomey and Tremont corridors, building eight-foot ADA-compliant sidewalks, upgrading drainage, curbs, gutters and utility systems, and planting more than 200 new trees with professional landscaping. The improvements were approved by council on October 12 and will be reimbursed through the 2026 bond referendum or other municipal sources.

"This has been a long time coming, and I'm incredibly excited to see this project move forward," said District 3 Council member Joe Mayo. "Being able to preserve affordable housing and greenspace while investing in infrastructure improvements and amenities is a win-win for the community." Mike Griffin, a partner with Griffin Brothers, described the redevelopment as an opportunity to build on Brookhill's history while creating a new mix of uses for the surrounding community.
