Hornets Sign Brandon Miller to Five-Year, $209 Million Rookie Extension: Second-Largest of His Draft Class This Summer

The Charlotte Hornets, based in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, have agreed with forward Brandon Miller on a five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension. Miller's representatives, AJ Vaynerchuk and Joey Middleton of VaynerSports, told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday, with the deal completed ahead of Monday's (October 19) 6 p.m. deadline for the 2023 draft class.

It is the second-largest rookie extension of the summer, behind only Victor Wembanyama's five-year, $252 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs and ahead of Amen Thompson's five-year, $208 million deal with the Houston Rockets. The new contract takes effect in the 2027-28 season and runs through 2031-32. Miller was the No. 2 pick in the 2023 draft.

Miller is coming off a career season: in 65 games he averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists, shooting 43.5% from the field and a career-high 38.3% from three. He underwent surgery in May to address the stability of his left shoulder and has since returned for the preseason. Charlotte went 41-24 with Miller available last season and 3-14 without him.

After the Hornets traded away LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges this summer, Miller and second-year shooter Kon Knueppel form the core of the rebuild. Charlotte finished last season 44-38 before falling to the Orlando Magic in the play-in tournament. The Hornets open the new season tonight on the road against the Brooklyn Nets.
