Bulls Leave Analyst Chair Empty for First Quarter of Opener to Honor Stacey King

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · City · GSM News

CHICAGO, Illinois — The Chicago Bulls, based in Cook County, Illinois, opened the 2026-27 season on the road in Toronto on October 21. In the broadcast booth, play-by-play announcer Adam Amin left the analyst chair beside him empty for the first quarter in honor of Stacey King, the former Bulls player and longtime analyst who died in June at age 59. Newly hired analyst Robbie Hummel took the seat starting in the second quarter.

King played for Chicago from 1989 to 1994 and won three championships with the team from 1991 to 1993. He became a Bulls analyst in 2006, and his distinctive style and catchphrases made him a fixture for Chicago fans. This season the Bulls will use a rotating team of analysts, including King's former teammates Scott Williams, Will Purdue and Bill Wennington, along with longtime analyst Kendall Gill. Bulls players will wear a memorial patch for King this season, and the team will host 'Stacey King Night' on February 4 at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Before their first preseason game, the Bulls held a moment of silence for King at the United Center. (GSM, based on ClutchPoints reporting)
