The VA Central Ohio Health Care System in Columbus, Ohio, has received U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) funding for Non-recurring Maintenance projects in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, to continue infrastructure improvements. In an October 21 release, the VA said the funding is part of the Veterans Health Administration's Non-recurring Maintenance program, which spent a record $4.8 billion in FY2026 to modernize, repair and improve VA health care facilities nationwide; the VA has obligated all $4.8 billion that was available.

Projects funded for the Central Ohio system this quarter are an additional boiler for the Columbus site, electronic health record modernization (EHRM) infrastructure upgrades, and a roof replacement for Building 1A. Medical Center Director Dr. Marc Cooperman said the funding allows the system to continue modernizing and improving, so its facility remains safe, efficient and equipped to provide high-quality care for Veterans in Central Ohio.

The VA said fourth-quarter approved projects include $1.183 billion to repair and upgrade outdated infrastructure systems in medical facilities, $938 million for major building upgrades such as elevators, electrical systems and boiler plants, and $560 million for maintenance and modernization of facility infrastructure to support future electronic health record system updates. The VA also said that since January 20, 2025, more than 300,000 new Veterans have enrolled in VA health care and 43 new VA health care facilities have opened nationwide.
