Cowboys Legendary Defensive Back Cornell Green Dies at 86: Never Missed a Game in 13 Seasons

The Dallas Cowboys announced on October 21 that legendary defensive back Cornell Green has died at 86. The team did not disclose a cause of death. 'Cornell was a true trailblazer — having never played football in college, yet becoming a multi-time Pro Bowler, All-Pro and NFL Super Bowl Champion with the Cowboys,' the team said in a statement.
Green played for the Cowboys from 1962 to 1974 and never missed a game in 13 seasons as a core member of the famed Doomsday Defense. He earned five Pro Bowl selections — three as a cornerback (1965-67) and two as a safety (1971-72) — was a member of the 1971 Super Bowl championship team, and was named to the Cowboys' 25th Anniversary Team. His 34 career interceptions remain tied for fifth in franchise history 52 years after his retirement. A basketball standout in college, Green is Utah State's career rebounding leader with 1,067 rebounds. (GSM, from Reuters reporting)
