Davis Scores 34 in Wizards Debut: Washington Rallies Past the Bucks 128-116 in Season Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Wizards opened their season at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on October 21 with a 128-116 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. More than nine months after Washington traded for him, Anthony Davis finally played his first regular-season game in a Wizards uniform: he scored 34 points on 11-of-20 shooting, going 11-of-14 from the free-throw line, and added 12 rebounds and four assists, pouring in 18 points in the third quarter as home fans chanted 'MVP' before the first quarter was over.
Washington acquired the 10-time All-Star in an eight-player trade in February, but he was injured at the time and never suited up for the Wizards last season; his previous regular-season appearance dated to January 8 with Dallas. The Wizards struggled from deep early, missing 18 of their first 22 three-point attempts, and trailed for much of the night. Deandre Ayton's dunk early in the fourth quarter put Washington ahead 97-96, and the Wizards followed with a 21-2 run, scoring 38 points in the fourth quarter and outscoring Milwaukee 77-60 in the second half. Trae Young added 20 points and 13 assists. No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa sat out with a sprained ankle. (GSM, based on ClutchPoints and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel game reports)
