Follow-Up: DC Man Jerrell Jackson, 41, Faces Three Federal Charges in October 18 Barracks Row Shootout

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Jerrell Lamont Jackson, 41, of Washington, D.C., has been charged by federal complaint in connection with the October 18 shootout in the Barracks Row neighborhood that left a National Guardsman injured in the leg. GSM first reported the shooting on October 19.
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro's office, Jackson is charged in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia with three counts: unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, assault with a dangerous weapon (gun), and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence or dangerous offense.
The complaint says that at about 11:10 p.m. on October 18, Metropolitan Police First District officers responded to a reported shooting in the 400 block of 8th Street SE. Investigators determined that National Guard members patrolling the Barracks Row corridor had tried to stop a fight when Jackson, who was involved in the fight, brandished a pistol and began shooting. Ordered to drop the weapon, he fled while firing toward the Guardsmen; three Guardsmen returned fire, striking him, and one Guardsman was hit in the leg. Both men were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators recovered a Taurus G2C 9mm pistol from under a vehicle Jackson had run behind, along with at least 14 shell casings.
Pirro called it a brazen attack on the National Guard. The charges are allegations, and Jackson is presumed innocent until proven guilty. (GSM, based on a U.S. Department of Justice release)
