Thursday, October 22, 2026 · City · GSM News

Washington, D.C.'s 2026 general election enters its voting phase next week. According to FOX 5 DC and the D.C. Board of Elections voter guide, early voting centers will be open from Monday, October 26, through Sunday, November 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and voters may cast ballots at any early voting center regardless of home address. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, when vote centers are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; anyone in line by 8:00 p.m. may still vote.

Mail ballots must be postmarked by November 3 and received by November 13 to be counted, and ballot drop boxes remain open until 8:00 p.m. on election night. The District allows same-day registration at vote centers with proof of residence; voters who cast a special ballot must provide proof of residence by November 5. Official results are tentatively set to be certified on December 2.

The marquee race is for mayor: incumbent Muriel Bowser is not seeking re-election, and Democrat Janese Lewis George, who won the June primary, faces Statehood Green candidate Robert Gross and independent Rhonda Hamilton. The non-voting House delegate seat is open with Eleanor Holmes Norton not running; Democrat Robert White faces Republican Dennis Rosado and Statehood Green candidate Kymon Freeman. Attorney General Brian Schwalb is seeking re-election against Republican Manuel Rivera, and Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, at-large council seats and Initiative 86, a foie gras ban, are also on the ballot.
