Broncos offense is the worst in franchise history so far: 4.40 yards per play

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · City · GSM News

DENVER, Colorado — The Denver Broncos, based in Denver County, Colorado, are off to a historically bad start on offense. Figures shared by Pro Football Focus on October 22 show the 2026 Broncos averaging just 4.40 yards per offensive play, the fewest in franchise history, ahead of 1977 (4.41), 1976 (4.59), 1978 (4.64) and 2001 (4.66).

It has only been six games, but quarterback Bo Nix still is not right after two ankle surgeries, and the Broncos have already switched offensive play-callers, moving from Davis Webb to head coach Sean Payton after four games. A comparison noted by 104.3 The Fan host Zach Bye adds to the sting: the 2022 offense of Nathaniel Hackett and Russell Wilson averaged 73 more yards per game than this season's — and Payton once called 2022 "one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL."

The good news is that Denver's defense remains elite. The Broncos host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, with the offense looking to get back on track.
