Denver Police to Launch 'Driver Exchange' Program for Minor Crashes on Oct. 15

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · City · GSM News

Denver is a city in Denver County, Colorado (a consolidated city-county). The Denver Police Department announced on Oct. 13 that it will officially launch a new Driver Exchange program on Oct. 15, 2026, aimed at streamlining the reporting process for minor traffic accidents, according to FOX31 Denver (KDVR). The digital system allows motorists involved in minor, non-injury accidents to submit information online rather than waiting at the scene for a responding officer.

Drivers involved in a minor, non-injury crash should first contact Denver 911 or the non-emergency line to initiate the process. Once approved for the program, dispatchers send a secure link to the phones of both drivers; the system supports uploading crash site photos and provides a downloadable report for insurance claims.

The department said the program is designed to reduce wait times for citizens after minor accidents and clear roads more efficiently, and will be particularly utilized during periods of inclement weather when the city enters crash alert status. By moving the process online, police aim to keep emergency personnel available for more critical incidents. Incidents where alcohol or drug use is suspected are excluded from the program, and an officer is required to attend those scenes instead.
