Red Wings Reportedly Closing In on Seven-Year Extension With Alex DeBrincat

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · City · GSM News

Detroit is a city in Wayne County, Michigan. The Detroit Red Wings and right wing Alex DeBrincat are closing in on a contract extension worth approximately $13 million per season over seven years, the Detroit Free Press reported on Oct. 13, citing Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, who posted late on Tuesday, Oct. 13, that "word is" the two sides are nearing a deal. Other reports put the total value at about $91 million.

An extension has been expected, as DeBrincat is in the last year of his deal. The 28-year-old from Farmington Hills, a 40-goal scorer, stands to become the highest-paid player on the team, moving past previous clubhouse leader Dylan Larkin and his $8.7 million annual average value.

On the same night the news broke, DeBrincat scored twice and added an assist in the Red Wings' 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils at Little Caesars Arena. Through six games this season, he has four goals and four assists for a team-leading eight points.

DeBrincat has said all along he wants to remain with the Red Wings, and the deal now appears close to done.
