Detroit Launches Seven District Budget Priorities Forums: Virtual Sessions Begin October 20, One for Each Council District, to Shape the Mayor's Next Fiscal Year Budget

The City of Detroit, in Wayne County, Michigan, has launched its budget preparation season, and its Office of Budget will host seven virtual District Budget Priorities Forums in October, one dedicated to each City Council district, with the series beginning October 20. The forums give residents an opportunity to learn about the budget development process and share their priorities for how city resources should be directed in Mayor Mary Sheffield's next fiscal year budget.

Public engagement began with two Annual Public Budget Meetings on September 21 and September 28 at 5 p.m., where leadership from several major city departments discussed their core functions and how current resources are allocated to support essential services.

"Our goal this budget season is to provide complete transparency and meaningful opportunities for collaboration," said Deputy Budget Director Matthew Spayth. "We want to ensure that every Detroiter understands how City resources are currently being used and, more importantly, has a direct voice in helping shape future budget priorities." The city said the virtual forums are a crucial tool for listening directly to residents and understanding neighborhood funding priorities. (Compiled from the City of Detroit, detroitmi.gov)
