34th Annual White Cane Walk Set for October 16 in Downtown Honolulu, From State Capitol to Iolani Palace

Honolulu is a city in Honolulu County, Hawaii (a consolidated city-county). The Hawaii Department of Human Services said on October 14 that Ho‘opono Services for the Blind, part of its Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, will host the 34th Annual White Cane Walk on Friday, October 16, in downtown Honolulu, promoting public awareness of the white cane and its role in the independence and mobility of blind and low-vision individuals.
A pre-walk program begins at 9:45 a.m. in the Hawaii State Capitol Rotunda, followed by the walk at 10:00 a.m., culminating at Iolani Palace at 12:00 p.m., with snacks and refreshments afterward. Ho‘opono said it served more than 500 blind and low-vision Hawaii residents in the last fiscal year through programs including Vocational Rehabilitation, the Older Individuals Who Are Blind Program and its Low Vision Clinic.
Governor Josh Green and Acting Lieutenant Governor Keith Regan have proclaimed October 16, 2026, as White Cane Day in Hawaii. White Cane Safety Day traces to a 1964 joint resolution of Congress setting October 15 as the national observance, also named Blind Americans Equality Day in 2011.
