122 Clark County Students Struck by Vehicles Since School Started: 432 Hit and 4 Killed Last School Year as E-Bike Crashes Rise

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — In Clark County, Nevada, 122 students have been struck by vehicles while traveling to or from school since classes began on August 10, according to Clark County School District (CCSD) Police Department data. During the previous school year, 432 students were struck and four died.

About a year ago, Clark County and CCSD formed a School Traffic Safety Working Group to coordinate a response. County Commission Chairman Michael Naft said Assembly Bill 6, which took effect in July, doubles fines and penalties for violations in active school zones. Clark County's e-device rules also require minors riding e-bikes and e-scooters to wear helmets. Officials say collisions involving students on e-scooters and e-bikes are rising, and the county is studying possible new local or state policies.

Krista Holloway, founder of the parent volunteer crossing-guard group Walk Safely LV, said volunteers still see speeding and drivers failing to stop at crosswalks every day near Arbor View High School. She supports tougher penalties and has called for the crossing-guard program to expand across the Las Vegas Valley.
