Haiti's Home Leg Against the U.S. Moves to Miami: Concacaf Announces the Nations League Quarterfinal Opener for November 14

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · City · GSM News

Miami-Dade County, Florida, will host a "home" game for the visiting team: Concacaf announced on October 22 that the first leg of the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal between the U.S. men's national team and Haiti will be played in Miami instead of Jamaica, on November 14.

According to USA Today, the first leg had originally been set for Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, but at the request of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF) it has been moved to Nu Stadium in Miami. Haiti has been unable to play matches in its home country since 2021 because of an ongoing political crisis and gang violence. "This flexibility will remain in place for as long as the security situation in Haiti persists," Concacaf said in a statement. The second leg remains scheduled for November 17 in Cincinnati.

Even though Haiti will play its nominal home leg inside the away team's country, a large turnout of Les Grenadiers fans is expected in a region home to a large Haitian community. Haiti played a pre-World Cup friendly against Peru at the same stadium in June before a sold-out crowd, and went on to its first World Cup appearance since 1974, losing group matches to Morocco, Scotland and Brazil but drawing strong support from the Haitian diaspora in the United States at every game. The aggregate winner will qualify for the 2027 Gold Cup and advance to the Concacaf Nations League semifinals in March 2027. (GSM, based on USA Today reporting)
