Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

Miami, Florida faces heavy rain and a flash flood threat this weekend. According to Fox Weather on October 21, a slow-moving weather system will bring days of rain to the U.S. Southeast this week, with repeated rounds of heavy rain expected to begin Thursday and continue through the weekend. South Florida is expected to receive 2 to 3 inches of rain, and Miami is under a Level 2 out of 4 flash flood threat through the weekend. Prediction market Kalshi puts the chance that Miami receives more than 4 inches of rain by the end of the month at 81%, and the chance of more than 5 inches at 60%. Mid to late October is the peak of king tide season, and the raised water levels will worsen coastal flooding.

The same day, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced that Subtropical Storm Josephine formed on the afternoon of October 21, centered about 265 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts, moving north at 6 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, and forecast to turn northeast on Thursday and move away from the United States. The National Weather Service office in Melbourne said large swells from Josephine continue to bring dangerous rip currents and hazardous boating conditions along Florida's east coast, and entering the surf is not advised.
