New Orleans Council Unanimously Approves $23.6 Million for Neighborhood Power Plan

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · City · GSM News

New Orleans is a city in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. The New Orleans City Council announced that it unanimously approved Resolution R-26-421, a $23.6 million incentive package to deploy battery storage across the city, covering roughly 800 homes and more than 200 businesses, with 40 percent of upfront funds reserved for low- and moderate-income households. Paired with previously approved community solar incentives, the programme links home batteries and other distributed resources into the 'Neighborhood Power Plan' microgrid network, providing backup power during outage-causing storms, heat waves and grid strain. The resolution was authored by Councilmember Aimee McCarron, chair of the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee.
