Saints Owner Gayle Benson Says She Will Not Accept Team's Level of Play After 1-4 Start

New Orleans is a city in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. GSM reported on October 11 that the Saints lost 23-13 at home to the Minnesota Vikings, their third straight defeat; this report covers the latest development.
The New Orleans Saints fell to 1-4 on the season after losing to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5, their third straight defeat, all of them at home in the Caesars Superdome — including a lopsided Monday night loss on the evening the team celebrated the 20th anniversary of its post-Katrina return to the stadium. On Tuesday, October 13, team owner Gayle Benson told the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club Luncheon that the loss "truly disappointed me," and that fans "are right to expect more than we have delivered" through the first five weeks of the season.
"As the owner, the responsibility does start with me," Benson said, via Rod Walker of NOLA.com. "I will not make excuses and I will not accept this level of performance as our standard. I am committed to making the decisions necessary to improving this team. Everyone on this organization understands the urgency. We must prepare better, execute consistently and correct mistakes that are costing us the games."
Benson also spelled out each party's responsibility: head coach Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing the players to perform; general manager Mickey Loomis and the football staff are responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success; the players are responsible for their preparation and execution; and she is responsible for holding the organization accountable. She issued no ultimatums about a more acceptable standard of play, but vowed to hold people accountable if the Saints are not able to right their ship in the coming weeks.
Moore is in his second season as head coach, while Loomis has been the general manager since 2002. The Saints are 7-15 since Moore was hired in 2025.
