Saints Cornerback Emerson Named NFC Defensive Player of the Week After Two-Interception Game
New Orleans Saints cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. of Louisiana was recognized on Wednesday, October 21, as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the New York Giants in Week 6.
Emerson broke out with two interceptions, picking off both Giants quarterbacks, Jameis Winston and J.J. McCarthy, along with a pass deflection and seven tackles. He only got into the game because the starter, Kool-Aid McKinstry, was sidelined by a migraine.
Emerson's NFL career started as a Cleveland Browns draft pick out of Mississippi State, where he developed into a quality starter. But he suffered a season-ending injury last summer in what should have been a contract year, and he is now working to put himself back on everyone's radar.
