Philadelphia Announces $7 Million Lemon Hill Park Renovation: A World Cup Legacy Project Due in Spring 2027

Officials in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, announced on October 22 a $7 million renovation of Lemon Hill Park in Fairmount Park, one of the city's legacy projects from hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
"Lemon Hill hosted the world this summer, and now we're making sure it keeps giving back to the neighbors who call it home," Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said in a statement. "This celebration is about turning a global moment into a lasting investment."
The next phase of work includes a 43,500-square-foot playground, an adult fitness area and two accessible picnic pavilions. The city will also renovate the basketball court and baseball field, install 53 lighting poles along park roads and walkways, add wayfinding signage, and place bollards to keep motor vehicles out of pedestrian areas. More than 100 trees will be planted, and the HVAC system at Lemon Hill Mansion will be improved. According to Metro Philadelphia, funding includes $4 million from Philadelphia Soccer 2026 and the William Penn Foundation, with the rest from other sources. The work is expected to finish in spring 2027; most of the park will stay open during construction, though areas such as the playground and courts may close temporarily.
