Longwood Gardens: 5,000 Chrysanthemums in Bloom for Chongyang as Pennsylvania Fall Display Peaks

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, is holding its annual Chrysanthemum Festival, with more than 5,000 chrysanthemum plants on display from October 16 through November 15. According to Longwood Gardens' event materials and Daily Bao News, the plants have been trained into spirals, cloud forms and a new double arch, with some forms reaching up to about 10 feet tall after more than a year of preparation. This year's Chongyang Festival, the Double Ninth, falls on October 25, in the middle of the run, and many Asian American families in the Philadelphia area time their visit to the display around the holiday.

On October 24 from 1 to 3 p.m., Longwood's science team will host Meet Us at the Mums in the conservatories, explaining how the forms are trained; the program is free with garden admission and requires advance registration. Festival tickets are sold by timed entry on the garden's website and weekend slots can sell out. Parking is free, and strollers, wheelchairs and service animals are welcome, while the on-site restaurant takes separate reservations. Longwood Gardens is at 1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348, about 35 miles west of Center City Philadelphia, roughly a 50-minute drive.
