Allegheny County Officials Say They Are in Good Shape for the November 3 Election: Nearly 6,500 Workers Confirmed and 48 Polling-Place Changes

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the county seat of Allegheny County — Allegheny County election officials told the county Election Board at a brief meeting on Tuesday morning, October 20, that the county is in good shape for the November 3 election, with election workers taking an upsurge in polling-place changes in stride.

Dave Voye, the county's elections division manager, told the three-member board that the county was short only three judges of elections across its more than 1,300 precincts, a negligible number of vacancies he said would be easily filled. Nearly 6,500 election workers in all had been confirmed as ready to work on Election Day.

Voye estimated that 30 to 35 polling locations change in a typical year because of building renovations or other issues, while 48 changes are in the works this year. Eight voting districts were displaced when the Bethel Park School District consolidated its elementary schools into a new building this fall, and a polling place at Scott Township's Carriage Park apartment complex is being moved at the property owner's insistence; officials said they had nearly settled on a new location.

Voters whose polling places are relocated are notified by postcard, and any voter can verify a polling place through the county's online locator tool or the state's voter website.
