Friday, October 16, 2026 · City · GSM News

Raleigh is a city in Wake County, North Carolina. North Carolina's Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) officially opened its new Reedy Creek campus in West Raleigh this week, holding a ribbon-cutting on Oct. 15 at 4407 Reedy Creek Road. The campus will house the department's laboratory staff and Raleigh Regional Office staff, along with a training and hearing room that will host public meetings beginning this fall. The project adds a new 36,000-square-foot building and 51,000 square feet of renovated laboratory space, including a 154-capacity multipurpose hearing room. The campus is Green Globes certified and features energy-efficient walls and windows, a depolluting roofing system, high-efficiency HVAC systems, sustainable building materials and a native plant garden; rooftop solar panels will provide 33 percent of the building's electricity. DEQ broke ground on the renovation and expansion project in February 2025; the site previously housed only staff from the Divisions of Air Quality and Water Resources. 'These new state-of-the-art facilities will advance DEQ's work to safeguard North Carolina's air, water, land and public health,' DEQ Secretary Reid Wilson said at the opening.

DEQ Director of Facilities, Health and Safety Todd Stevens also joined the ribbon cutting, along with representatives of design firm H&H Architects and builder Skanska USA.
