Salt Lake City-Based Know Your Lemons Foundation Upgrades Breast Health App With Personal Risk Assessment

Salt Lake City is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah. The Know Your Lemons Foundation, a global breast-health charity based in Salt Lake City, announced a major update to its educational app on October 16, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the first time, the app can assess an individual's risk and build a custom screening plan, the foundation said, as it launched a public campaign called #Lemonista.
The Webby Award-winning app uses a series of games to teach users how to check their breasts and understand their personal risk. Users earn two lemons in the app: one representing confidence in knowing their body, and one representing intelligence — knowing their personal risk and screening plan. The foundation says its breast-health education has reached 2 billion people, with materials used in more than 100 countries.
The foundation points to Lynsey White, 24, who found a lump under her armpit a week after seeing its "12 symptoms" image on social media and was diagnosed with breast cancer within weeks, after initially being told she was too young to worry. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among U.S. women ages 20 to 49, and the American College of Radiology recommends that women complete a risk assessment by age 25.
