A Seattle library card now opens 18 museums for free: how the Museum Pass works

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · City · GSM News

SEATTLE, Washington — Seattle, in King County, Washington, has an underused city pass: a library card. According to the Seattle Chinese Times, the Museum Pass programs run by Seattle Public Library (SPL) and the King County Library System (KCLS) let cardholders reserve free museum admission once a month by visit date, and because the two systems' allotments are independent, residents effectively get two chances a month.

Each card guarantees at least two adult tickets, and marquee venues allow more: the Seattle Aquarium admits four people free; the Pacific Science Center allows up to two adults, six youths and two caregivers; Woodland Park Zoo allows up to four; and the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) allows two adults and two children. Eighteen museums take part.

Reservations open on each system's website at fixed times — noon for SPL and 2 p.m. for KCLS — and popular venues book out quickly. Cardholders can also borrow a Discover Pass through "Check Out Washington" for free entry to Washington state parks; the pass otherwise costs $11.50 for a day or $51.50 for a year.
