Wizards Open at Home Against Bucks Tonight: No. 1 Pick AJ Dybantsa Out With Sprained Ankle

In Washington, D.C., the Washington Wizards open their 2026-27 season tonight (Wednesday, October 21) at 7 p.m. at Capital One Arena against the Milwaukee Bucks, but fans will have to wait for the regular-season debut of this year's No. 1 draft pick.
Wizards coach Brian Keefe said on Tuesday that top pick AJ Dybantsa will miss the opener with a sprained ankle and is considered day to day. Dybantsa was injured last Friday (October 16) in the preseason finale against the New Orleans Pelicans, landing awkwardly after a jump shot in the second quarter; he had scored 12 points before leaving the game. Keefe described the injury as a mild sprain. The Wizards are home again on Friday against the Toronto Raptors, when Dybantsa could make his regular-season debut.
Washington went 17-65 last season, the league's worst record, and used the resulting No. 1 pick on Dybantsa out of BYU. The Wizards acquired guard Trae Young and forward Anthony Davis in trades during last season and signed Young to a four-year contract extension this summer; Davis has yet to appear in a game for Washington since the trade. The Wizards will be led by Young and Davis against Milwaukee tonight.
