Biden Signs Full and Unconditional Pardon for His Son Hunter

President Joe Biden signed a pardon in Washington, D.C., on December 1 granting his son, Robert Hunter Biden, a full and unconditional pardon. Biden had repeatedly said he would not pardon his son, and the signing marked a reversal of that public position.
The presidential statement and the text of the executive grant of clemency issued by the White House that day show the pardon covering all federal offenses Hunter Biden committed, may have committed, or took part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024, including all offenses charged or prosecuted by Special Counsel David C. Weiss.
In the Delaware federal gun case, Hunter Biden was convicted in June 2024 on three felony counts tied to false statements about his drug use on a federal form when he bought a handgun in 2018. In the Central District of California tax case, he pleaded guilty on September 5, 2024 to all nine counts; prosecutors alleged he owed at least $1.4 million in taxes for tax years 2016 through 2019. Sentencing in the two cases had been scheduled for mid-December 2024.
In his statement, Biden said that from the day he took office he had said he would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and had kept his word even as he watched his son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted. The grant of clemency was recorded with the Department of Justice. (Source: The White House)
