Sunday, December 1, 2024 · Federal · GSM News

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced on December 2 that its officers had screened about 3.087 million travelers at airport checkpoints nationwide on December 1, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, the busiest single day in the agency's history.

"Yesterday, December 1st was the busiest day ever for TSA - our officers screened 3.087M individuals at airports nationwide," the agency wrote in a social media post that day. The figure broke the previous single-day record of about 3.014 million set on July 7, 2024, by roughly 74,000, and marked only the second time screening volume had passed 3 million.

In its pre-holiday forecast, the TSA had projected it would screen 18.3 million people from November 26 to December 2, about 6 percent more than the same period in 2023. The agency said the ten busiest days in TSA history had all occurred in 2024.
