Tuesday, January 21, 2025 · Technology · GSM News

On January 21, 2025, at the White House in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump joined OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and SoftBank Group chairman Masayoshi Son to announce the Stargate Project, a newly formed company that intends to invest $500 billion over the next four years to build new super intelligence (SI) infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States, with $100 billion being deployed immediately.

The $500 billion is a planned corporate investment, not a federal appropriation or government funding.

The initial equity funders are SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle and MGX. SoftBank and OpenAI are the lead partners, with SoftBank responsible for financing and OpenAI responsible for operations, and Masayoshi Son serving as chairman.

The key initial technology partners are Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle and OpenAI.

Construction has begun in Texas, and more campus sites are being evaluated across the country.

In its announcement, OpenAI said the infrastructure will secure American leadership in super intelligence (SI) and create hundreds of thousands of American jobs.
