CPSC Recalls Two Rechargeable Hand Warmer Brands Totaling About 82,500 Units: HotHands and Gobi Heat Batteries Can Overheat and Ignite

Thursday, October 1, 2026 · Life · GSM News

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced two recalls of rechargeable hand warmers on October 1: about 77,000 HotHands-branded warmers from Kobayashi and about 5,500 Gobi Heat-branded warmers. In both products, the lithium-ion battery and electrical components can overheat and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury from fire and burn hazards. No incidents or injuries have been reported for either recall.

The HotHands recall, number 27-011, involves white-and-orange rechargeable hand warmers sold in packs of two that can be magnetically joined together and include a charging cable. Each unit has a USB-C port to charge its built-in lithium-ion battery, LED indicator lights on a hard plastic shell, and a silicone lanyard. Model number H163650 and the four-digit batch number are printed on the underside, and the white HotHands logo appears on the top of the warmer and on the packaging; only electric rechargeable warmers with the white HotHands logo are included. The warmers were sold from July 2025 through August 2026 at Bass Pro Shops, Meijer, Target, The Home Depot and other stores nationwide and online, including Amazon.com, for between $30 and $40; about 72 more were sold in Canada. The distributor is Kobayashi Consumer Products, LLC, of Dalton, Georgia, and the products were manufactured in China.

The Gobi Heat recall, number 27-009, involves black-and-gray rechargeable hand warmers, also sold in magnetically joined pairs, with "Gobi Heat" printed on the top and model number UT3053 on the underside. They were sold only at GobiHeat.com from October 2024 through August 2026 for between $20 and $40; about 47 more were sold in Canada. The retailer is Dragon Gear Inc., doing business as Gobi Heat, of Severance, Colorado, and the products were manufactured in China. Note that this Gobi Heat model's number, UT3053, is the same as one of the OCOOPA hand warmer models recalled in July; the two are different brands from different companies, and consumers should tell them apart by the brand name printed on top.

For the remedy, consumers should stop using the recalled warmers immediately. HotHands owners can contact Kobayashi for a full refund: first obtain a claim number through its recall page, then write "Recalled" and the claim number on the product in permanent marker and submit a photo showing the marked warmer, its model number and batch number; the company can be reached at 866-534-9986 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. Gobi Heat owners can contact the company for a full refund or store credit equal to the purchase price plus 20 percent, at 888-462-4743 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by email at [email protected].

CPSC warns that recalled lithium-ion battery products must not be thrown in the trash, curbside recycling bins, or used-battery recycling boxes at stores; they should be disposed of in accordance with local and state hazardous waste regulations, and municipal household hazardous waste collection centers may accept them.
