Brigham Nurses File Fourth Unfair Labor Practice Charge as Strike Enters 10-Day Notice Period

Friday, October 2, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Massachusetts Nurses Association, representing about 3,700 registered nurses at Brigham and Women's Hospital, filed a fourth unfair labor practice charge against the hospital with the National Labor Relations Board on October 2, and delivered the legally required 10-day strike notice — a walkout could begin as early as October 14, according to a union press release.

The union accuses the hospital of bad-faith bargaining, including unilaterally changing working conditions and withholding information needed for negotiations. Contract talks have dragged on for more than a year, with staffing ratios, wage increases, and nurse safety as the core disputes.

Brigham and Women's Hospital, part of Mass General Brigham, is a major Boston teaching hospital. The hospital has said negotiations continue and that contingency plans — including managers and temporary nurses — are in place to protect patient care.

If it goes ahead, the walkout would be the hospital's largest nurses' strike in recent years. The union calls the strike notice a necessary lever to bring management back to the table; the hospital urges continued bargaining to avoid disrupting patient care. Whether the two sides reach a deal within ten days will decide if the strike happens.
