Anwar Announces RTM Will Broadcast the Sepang F1 Bahrain Grand Prix Live Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on October 2 that the 2026 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia would be broadcast live by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), so that the excitement of the world-class race can be shared by all Malaysians free to air. The race weekend at the Sepang International Circuit runs from October 2, with the grand prix itself on Sunday, October 4.
'Great news for all Malaysians! RTM will broadcast the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia in 2026 live so that the excitement of this race can be enjoyed together,' Anwar said in a social media post. 'I hope this live broadcast gives people in every corner of the country the opportunity to experience the thrill of the world-class race from the Sepang International Circuit.' The day before, Anwar had taken part in the pit lane walk at Sepang and discussed hosting preparations with Bahrain's Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) was selected to host the 2026 F1 Bahrain Grand Prix under an agreement confirmed in July between Formula 1, the FIA and the governments of Malaysia and Bahrain, after the Middle East situation displaced the race. Malaysia last hosted an F1 round in 2017, making this the sport's return after nine years. A free national broadcast means fans who cannot be trackside — including many ethnic-Chinese racing families — can follow the race at home.
Large crowds of local and international spectators are expected at Sepang this weekend. Organisers advise spectators to plan for traffic around the circuit and changeable weather; RTM's exact broadcast schedule is as published by the broadcaster.
